FKA twigs and her most iconic fashion moments
From time to time, on our everlasting quest for new music, we discover that one artist that initially seemed weird but had us hooked right after. And suddenly, they can do no wrong. Whether it’s their music, shows or sense of fashion - every single thing they do ends up being inspiring and special. Without being too fangirly, we’ll gladly admit that FKA Twigs is one of them. Since the beginnings of her career, she has been delivering critically acclaimed and boundary pushing work, leaving us both in awe and excitement for what is to come next.
Twigs is considered to be on the forefront of contemporary avant-garde music, putting her on the same list as Björk’s and the likes. With barely any features on her discography, often self-produced visuals and songs and her ever evolving dancing skills, it’s safe to say that she is a One Woman Show. Whether she gives birth to a long, colourful scarf (M3LL155X) or pole dances herself into a heavenly dimension (Cellophane) - we never know what we’re getting but it sure is *fire*. Her art follows her journey with sexuality, relationships and femininity - wrapped in ambient, often disturbing soundscapes and sharply sung vocals.
In celebration of her upcoming album and currently running MAGDALENE Tour, we compiled a collection of twigs’ most captivating fits and fashion moments.
Since twigs is currently celebrating her comeback after the M3LL155X EP, we’re bound to see her more often than usual (which is great news btw). For the fourth issue of her own Instagram-mag AVANTgarden, she poses in a Versace fringe headpiece and a beaded cage dress by Yueqi Qi.
Vintage has been very in this season (and all the past seasons, really) and this time it’s the corsets that have stolen our hearts. So, it’s no surprise that twigs takes us back to *renaissance* times in her vintage Vivienne Westwood corset and Gaultier Coat at Sundance Festival.
FKA twigs took high fashion to the mall, when she and her fashion team went out for burgers in her VMA 2019 dress. Wrapped in the hundreds of crystals her custom-made Ed Marler dress consists of, she stood in row for a vegan meal and took ‘Everyday is a fashion show’ to a whole new level. Granted, she is an artist and being in the limelight isn’t too unfamiliar for her - But if there’s something we can learn from twigs (amongst a dozen other lessons!), it’s that you should always carry yourself with confidence - even if you feel or look different. So, if you are still looking for a sign to wear that very loud outfit of yours, this is it.
Who said that avant-garde can’t be for the wider audience? In the video of her first feature with A$AP Rocky, „Fukk Sleep“ (and AVANTgarden), she wore a golden headdress while covering her right eye with heavy diamonds. If you haven’t noticed, headpieces really are her thing.
Recently, twigs started her MAGDALENE Tour and yet again hit us with a very renaissance core get-up. Her outfit is pieced together with clothes by Ed Marler and captures the overall feel we get from the „Cellophane“ video. The colours play between the red bottoms and blue *headpiece* really lets the gold stand out and gives off some serious royal vibes.
